..since it's the 2nd time i've experienced this, due to the paralyzingly helpless sensation of the event, it is in fact the exact moment when i began to think about abandoning my linux endeavors.
windows vista includes a unix subsystem in it, which in short lets u do posix/unix type stuff. i played briefly with it, and it feels a lot like the early days of running unix on mac with mach10. vista's Subsystem for Unix Applications
compiz-fusion is the result of merging some of beryls functionality with the compiz project. i'm not entirely certain that beryl is being abandoned, but it does seem that future efforts will be focussed on compiz-fusion.
over the holiday i messed around extensively with fedora 8 and virtualization, and am jotting down some notes and discussion points for future reference.
i upgraded drupal from 5.2 to 5.5 last night. there have been 2 security updates that i didn't feel were enuff to bother with, but since i intended to install and upgrade a few modules, i thought it best to start off by upgrading the core. this is all in the UPGRADING.txt, so the chronology that follows is meant to serve as an expanded reference for anyone who gets stuck along the way.
I got my electric bill today, and got to thinkin about how i shouldn't need to be running 2 separate intel dual core machines 24/7..
i'm a web developer, and have been for about as long as it's been around; in as much as i was coding webpages by hand back with spyglass mosaic, and poking around trying to get imagemaps to work back when they were limited to server side (and undocumented). firefox (wikipedia, official site) is my web browser of choice, first and foremost since it's available on all major platforms, and secondly due to it's plugins and vast community. on the following pages i'll detail some plugins i find fundamentaly useful.
